Introduction

Self-hypnosis is, by its very nature, holistic. It incorporates the whole you—body, mind, and spirit. Each is an integral and vital part of the other. You can use self-hypnosis to help you in any part of your life in any way that you desire—whether it be in body, mind, or spirit. Within this book are self-hypnosis scripts you can use to change habits, create a more positive way of looking at things, create health and harmony, and tune in to the spiritual side of yourself.

To engage in holistic self-hypnosis is to engage your subconscious mind with your conscious and super-conscious mind. Self-hypnosis is a natural part of our life, even though at times it may seem mysterious and magical. Your inner self gives you access to all these parts of yourself.

There is a place inside each of us, a place we trust, a place we enjoy even though we may not completely understand what this place is. We might experience it when we are daydreaming, meditating, or seeking a solution to a problem. In this place we are relaxed, enjoying the experience of our own being. Our thoughts are clear. We feel productive. Quite naturally, we have entered a state of higher consciousness.

What we call daydreaming can take us to that state very easily; our minds sense enlightenment waiting there. Perhaps the urge originates with the higher part of        our mind (our higher self) expressing its desire to communicate with us. It is a          place of wonder and magic, a place of great wisdom. It is a state of self-hypnosis, a state of mystical absorption, a state where our interests are totally preoccupied by what we are discovering inside. It is a level of heightened awareness. It is a super-consciousness existing outside the current physical dimension that leads us more deeply inward toward our own higher being.

Self-hypnosis is the entryway—the entrance to an inner reality that is just as real        and vibrant as the outer reality which surrounds us every day. They are simply two different worlds, existing together. Self-hypnosis is a tool which can be used for self-betterment, for inspiration, and for soul development. It is an inner state of peace and well-being that is always there for us if we have the willingness and the desire to be in that place.

When we were younger, we were much more connected with that inner realm. As children, we often entered a state of mind where our play was just as real as the world that surrounded us. We were often so absorbed in the realities of our play-world that even a call to lunch or dinner went unheard. Ultimately, we broke away and responded to the outer reality; yet, that rich world within us kept calling us back.

As adults, we can revisit that enchanted realm. The innocence and openness of a child’s state of mind, is sometimes necessary when approaching self-hypnosis. By entering this magical world within us, we can unlock doors that lead to many of life’s treasure, paths that lead to the wise and exuberant inner self who holds the answers to questions, the maps for quests, and the energy to accomplish goals.

What is holistic self-hypnosis and how do we get there from here? We might be in a state of self-hypnosis without being aware that we’ve entered this place within us. It can happen when we least expect it and aren’t seeking it—while admiring a beautiful sunset or becoming aware that we’re having profound thoughts which are leading us to great truths or to a better understanding of our own lives. We may experience it when we meditate or when we pray. Within this inner, peaceful state, we are aware of what is happening in the outer world but we are detached from it because we are tuned in to a place within ourselves that we know leads to magic and miracles.

When we use self-hypnosis, we enter the garden of our mind. Gardens are peaceful, pleasant, and inspiring places where beauty, harmony, and serenity abound. Gardens are a pleasure to experience and we can grow in the gardens of our own mind. What we plant in our mind’s garden grows to become our life experiences. What we hold in thought becomes reality in our lives. Using the seeds of imagination, we can grow beautiful, useful, and amazing experiences.

To imagine means to hold a mental picture of something that is not physically present. Imagination is the practice of imagining things. That is how we can work in our mind gardens. If we hold the picture of success in our minds, it will happen. If we picture prosperity for ourselves, it will manifest. If we envision healing, it will be so. Whatever we plant or sow, we reap.

Those things will come only if we put real-life energy into them, by using a holistic approach of body, mind, and spirit. Just sitting still, waiting and wishing for things to happen seldom brings desired results into our reality. We have to do the work begun by our inner self. That is where the bountiful garden of self-realization is planted. Later, in the outer world, we harvest the fulfillment of our dreams. The work we do in our inner world, through self-hypnosis, brings reality to our outer world.

This book shows you how to develop a cooperative relationship with your inner self—a relationship which is likely to lead to healing and greater fulfillment in your life by using self-hypnosis scripts and suggestions—called “cycles” in this book—that are consistent with your highest ideals. This holistic approach to working with your subconscious and super-conscious mind will help you plant positive seeds that will grow into a fruitful future.

Hypnosis is a tool which opens the unlimited potential of the human mind. In self-hypnosis, you act as your own hypnotist. As you work with these suggested wordings in this book for self-hypnosis cycles, put yourself in a special frame of mind. Become your own inner self. Become that deeper soul-mind with its high ideals, strength of will and commitment to growth, change, and healing. As you give yourself positive suggestions, you can claim what is available to all of us as a tool for transformation and growth through hypnotic mind-building techniques.

Stress Management

Is your life a perpetual-motion machine? Do you feel as if you are driving through life in the second gear of a three-speed automobile—wound-up tightly and working hard? This cycle is designed to help you shift into high gear and make the going easier and smoother.

Everyone experiences stress in one form or another—physical stress, mental stress, emotional stress, even spiritual stress Everyone probably needs a certain amount of stress to grow and develop, but managing the many stressful situations in life, especially those you encounter at work, can sometimes be a bit of a challenge. This cycle will help you manage that stress.

This cycle uses traffic as a metaphor. But, because stress affects different people in different ways and at different times, you may wish to design this specific cycle to fit your personal needs, using this cycle only as an example. Change the metaphor, the suggestions, and the visualizations for your specific situation.

A relaxation break is like a pause in the chatter of life. You can learn to take a step or two backward to catch your breath and gain new perspective before making your moves.

[Note: The book encourages you to make your own self-hypnosis tapes which you can listen to and which will enhance the power you provide to your subconscious for acting on the suggestions. Methods for relaxing and entering self-hypnosis are included in the book as well as a returning/re-orienting procedure. The scripts are meant to be recorded with the entering self-hypnosis script, the script (cycle) itself, and the wake-up procedure.]

I am now deeply relaxed. I know that I can achieve this relaxation at other times and places. When I take a few minutes and close my eyes, I can re-experience this calm feeling whenever I wish. As I practice this calmness, this harmony, this peacefulness, daily, it becomes part of my life.

When I close my eyes for a few minutes and take a deep breath, I mentally say and repeat the word “relax.” I then achieve inner centering and quieting, and I experience calmness and tranquility.

Merely the mention of the word “relax” helps balance my actions with my thoughts,      and my thoughts with my actions. The more demands that are put on me, the more strength I have. And once composed and relaxed, I open my eyes and meet the situation calmly.

Through these moments of quiet that I am practicing, I am understanding myself better. I learn to rise above stressful situations by working toward the best solution and not being held down by the problem, or by my real or imagined fears of it. I am learning to keep my ideals and goals always in sight by focusing on the greater good to be achieved that I know is beyond the obstacles.

I am experiencing harmony on a physical level, a mental level, an emotional level, and a spiritual level. As I step toward peace and fulfillment on each level, I become a much happier, healthier, more loving person—stronger within myself—and, therefore, more able to cope with the world and the demands it sometimes places on me.

I imagine myself as an automobile. I start my day as I start my car, by turning the ignition on, by turning my awareness on, then, slowly and with careful thought, I shift into higher gear.

I am aware of the traffic and the conditions around me. I take the best roads toward my daily objective(s) and make careful choices at all intersections. Most of the time, I cruise in high gear, but I’m aware that at any time I can shift down to a slower speed. I control the flow of energy at all times, and remain relaxed in every situation.

When my day is done, I reverse the process and start slowing down. When, in the morning, I geared up my speed, now, at night, I gear myself down to a quiet neutral. For now my work is done and I tune down the engine. Now I take time to reflect on the day and be thankful that I did the best I could.

I see myself as always in complete control, aware of what I’m doing and why. I see myself taking short relaxation breaks during the activities of the day to keep my body refreshed and my mind healthy. I program new responses to old situations that once created stress. I now see and feel myself acting calmly and in complete control in every situation

I hear friends and fellow workers telling me how calm and yet more efficient I have become. I feel myself taking a few minutes to become centered before doing a new job so that I need not waste time or steps. Then, I feel myself step forward and carefully use my time and energy in the most efficient ways.

I plant in my mind a vivid image or symbol of my success. (Pause) I experience this goal-image as already accomplished. I picture a positive end result. (Pause)

By taking relaxation breaks, I am far more dynamic and productive when I open my eyes and take action. When I experience stress, I have a wonderful ability to take care of it in a calm, assured, and positive way.

“Relax.”
