The meditations inside this book are written to provide you with a peaceful inner sanctuary you can go to within your mind at any time to experience tranquility and harmony. Several of the meditations in this book first appeared in Images and Inner Journeys and Insights and Inner Knowings, but there are many new meditations for you to enjoy.

Being at the Beach

It’s a warm, sunny day and you’re at the beach. Listening to the splash of the waves and the sound of the water as it comes to the shore, you’re aware of the eternal essence of the tides as they ebb and flow. As you walk along the beach, you feel the softness and warmth of the sand beneath your feet. Perhaps you notice a few seashells that have been washed ashore by the tide and you pick them up to admire them.

As you continue walking along the beach, you find a small, secluded cove next to some large rocks that stretch across the sand. It’s quiet and private; it’s a perfect place to lie on your beach towel. As you get comfortable on your towel, you feel the sand adjust to your body. As you lie on the beach, you feel the warmth of the sun on your skin as it gently permeates your body.

The sky is an azure-blue, with a few puffy white clouds floating leisurely by. The sun is bright and strong, and feels pleasantly warm on your body. You feel a gentle breeze and smell the scent of the salt spray from the ocean. You hear the sound of seagulls and the muted talk and laughter of other people in the distance. You feel so relaxed and peaceful; the quiet hum of conversation sounds like soft, gentle music.

As you lie on the beach, you listen to the water as it comes to the shore and as it returns to the ocean. As the tide ebbs and flows, your breathing begins to match the rhythm of the tide—in and out, back and forth. The sound of the ocean is lulling, soothing, and relaxing. The sounds ebb and flow, forming a gentle, rhythmic pattern that moves in tune with your thoughts and feelings.

The sun is pleasantly warm on your body and the sound of the ocean completely relaxes you. All your thoughts flow into a gentle awareness of this beautiful day. You feel a wonderful contentment and peace. You’re enjoying the warmth of the sun and the rhythm of the tide; you’re in harmony with everything you’re experiencing.

Butterfly Wings

Shimmers of your soul are all around you, every day, all the time. You don’t need to be a monk meditating on a mountain to become aware of them. Simply by being open to the awareness and experiences of your soul, you can recognize the light of your soul even in the most ordinary places and mundane moments.

The light of your soul shimmers like iridescent butterfly wings in every moment of your life, in every thought, feeling, and experience you have. This meditation invites you to travel on the wings of your spirit to explore the many realms within you and the myriad worlds of the universe around you.

You’re looking at a beautiful picture of an open meadow with a few trees. You see yourself inside the meadow in this picture. Notice everything that is around you and what you are doing. From this bird’s-eye view, you realize that you’re only watching the picture; you’re only seeing what the picture shows you.

You feel drawn into the meadow inside the picture, inside your soul. The soft, luxuriant green grass feels like velvet beneath your feet. The sun feels warm and pleasant on your face as it touches you with light. The fragrance of the flowers is pleasing to you and their beauty brings forth the beauty within you.

The meadow seems to vibrate with a special sense of energy that resonates with your soul. The sky is a vibrant azure blue with a few puffy white clouds and you see the sunshine sparkling on a quiet, tranquil pond. Looking into the still pond, you see an image of yourself reflected on the mirror-like surface of the water.

A soft breeze moves through the trees and seems to flow through the entire picture as you feel it gently caress you. The interplay of sun and shadow on the leaves form ever-changing patterns in a magical flow of energy.

Looking closer, you notice an iridescent butterfly perched on one of the leaves. Sunlight shimmers on its wings as the butterfly opens them and begins to float on gentle currents of air.

Watching the butterfly floating through the air, you feel as if you are the butterfly, free and natural. You feel the freeness and naturalness of your inner spirit, taking wing and flying through the air, into the azure-blue sky of the universe.

Travel on the iridescent, shimmering wings of your spirit to explore the many multidimensional realms within you and the myriad worlds of the universe around you.
